Sinjeon Topokki - Church is a Korean restaurant tucked into the busy stretch of Church Street in Toronto, known for embracing the spicy and comforting flavors of tteokbokki (Korean rice cakes). The restaurant’s focus on this iconic Korean street food makes it a practical stop for anyone craving a casual but satisfying meal where bold, well-balanced spice levels can be tailored to personal taste.

Inside, the space keeps things straightforward—serving mostly through a counter-order setup rather than full table service. This no-fuss approach fits well with the quick, laid-back vibe of the place, making it easy for individuals or small groups looking for a spot to warm up after a chilly walk along Church Street. It’s especially popular in cooler months when hearty, spicy food feels like a cozy reward.

Sinjeon’s menu offers a range of topokki variations, including cream curry udon with mild spice, and crowd-pleasing combos like the Sinjeon Original paired with fries. The option to pick spice levels means it caters both to those who want the familiar kick of Korean spices and to those easing into something milder. Deep-fried sides such as fried seaweed rolls and fish cakes add crunchy contrast, making the meal feel more complete. Their rice bowls with spam and crispy toppings provide a filling base for the spicy main dishes, ideal for anyone wanting a variety of textures alongside their topokki.

Locals note that the food tastes authentic to what you might experience in Korea, and many appreciate the fresh preparation, with dishes coming out hot and flavorful. The staff tend to be helpful and efficient, striking a balance between friendly and focused. Seating is generally quick to find, though the place’s compact size means it is better suited for shorter stays rather than long lingerings.

Sinjeon Topokki suits people who enjoy exploring Korean cuisine outside the usual barbecue spots, favoring accessible and flavorful street-food-style dining. It’s a smart pick for a casual lunch or early dinner when you want something quick, warmly spiced, and filling without fuss. Late afternoons on weekdays or early evenings can be good times to drop by, avoiding any busier peak hours.

Overall, if you’re after hearty portions of Korean rice cakes with a real kick, combined with some crunchy fried treats and a laid-back environment, Sinjeon on Church Street delivers a straightforward and genuine neighborhood food experience.

Tastes just like korea. Make sure to add the wide vermicelli noodles, trust me. Pair up with rice or fried items and eat em together, yummy.

The workers here are very nice and easy to talk with. When we arrived we got seats quite quickly, which was nice after walking through the cold. Ordered the tteokbokki at the medium level, which would definitely be too spicy for people who don't normally like spicy food. You order at the counter rather than a waitress taking your order from your table. Very nice place, a little hidden spot I'm excited to visit again.

I heard many good things about this Korean food spot and finally got to try their Tteok-Bokki (Topokki). I ordered their Rosé Cream Topokki at the first spice level with a thick layer of cheese on top and it was absolutely divine. It was super filling, piping hot, and so flavourful. They make it all fresh to order and I gladly had leftovers for dinner! When I returned again with a friend we got their Fried Dumplings, Rosé Topokki again, and their Beef Bulgogi and Kimchi Bimbap! Everything was so delicious! The staff here are super friendly and prompt. They served me my dishes, my order and gave me a container to take my leftovers home. The place has a nice, homey feel to it. The seating here is limited as it is a smaller location, and if it is full, they ask that you minimize your dining time to under an hour, which is completely understandable! Definitely looking forward to coming back for more!

Ordered a regular red Topokki in mild spicy level. It tasted almost the same as what I had in Korea. The staff were quietly doing their work. The fried food was delicious, the service was decent, and the price was cheaper than I expected.

Incredible tteokbokki spot that my friends and I were walking by on our way to sit around Ryerson and drink. We got the Level 1 spiciness and it still hit, that's how you know it's legit. I loved it here and will definitely return for more. All the different sauce bases were good and my friends whom I introduced to Tteokbokki loved it.

I really love the food at this place because it’s not expensive and is super delicious. The flavours are always perfect and the rice cakes are super chewy. However I wish the interior had more seating and I would love to see the places expand. Also, if you go during the summer it is super hot in the restaurant. But other than that it was perfect especially on a cold day

FOOD: • Tteokbokki: comes in original version, spicy level can be adjusted. I added fish cake and egg for 2.99 each but the amount is quite disappointing. The sauce is not the best but still good enough for a snack. • Sinjeon gimbap: mostly kimchi, it's alright if dipping in the Tteokbokki sauce. • Shrimp tempura: pretty cheap. The quality is decent and taste not bad. SERVICE: self-serve VIBE: quite spacious, I hope they'll have more tables.
